Oregon Medical Marijuana Laws

Medical Marijuana provides much needed relief for serious conditions that have not been successfully treated by other means. Unfortunately, many other states have not come around to support medical cannabis as a legitimate treatment option. However, past and present research has painted marijuana in a more positive light, supporting the justifiable use of it for medical purposes because it has been proven to be a highly effective natural solution for certain conditions.

Kushley is dedicated to providing solutions to those who want to eliminate marijuana odors to keep everybody comfortable. Not everybody likes the pungent odor of cannabis smoke, so we have created products that protect you from judgement by those with a negative view of medical marijuana so you can maintain your privacy as you attempt to heal, and leave your air clean and fresh. Our variety of products are completely organic and safe for even the most sensitive, including your pets.

Oregon's Cannabis History

The United States criminalized the use of marijuana with the Controlled Substance Act of 1970, but it wasn't until 2014 that the Rohrabacher-Farr amendment prevented the Justice Department from preventing the implementation of marijuana laws by state. Oregon has always been a frontrunner in the United States for its progressive medical marijuana laws. Oregon was the first state to decriminalize the use of marijuana in 1973 and one of the first to legalize medical marijuana in 1998.

Getting Treatment

Today, Oregon requires those seeking medical cannabis to have a doctor's recommendation in writing stating that they have a qualifying condition that medical marijuana may help. Some of the conditions recognized by Oregon that could qualify for medical cannabis treatment are:

  • Cancer
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Glaucoma
  • Seizures and spasms
  • PTSD
  • Degenerative conditions
  • Severe pain and nausea

These symptoms and conditions have been shown to be successfully treated with cannabis, but are not limited to these. It is ultimately up to your doctor to decide whether or not you are a good candidate for treatment.

Once you have been given the green light by a doctor, you must complete the application process and pay the fines (up to $200) to register and receive a medical marijuana card. A patient may choose to grow their own marijuana and have up to 12 mature plants for only their personal consumption.

How Marijuana Helps

The brain makes chemicals for handling pain and inflammation that are similar to the chemicals found in Cannabis. Marijuana is believed to help the existing chemicals in the brain work more effectively, providing better relief from pain and stress on the body caused by certain conditions. It is also has been shown to reduce anxiety, control nausea, stimulate appetite, kill cancer cells and slow tumor growth.

It can be consumed by smoking, through a vaporizer, by eating it with food, applying it to your skin, or through a liquid oil. Each method reacts with your body in a different way, and will have different periods of effect.

Negative Affects

Although there are not many reported side effects, a few of them could be potentially dangerous, so it is important that you talk with your doctor if you experience depression, dizziness, increased heartbeat, hallucinations or a drop in blood pressure. Because of the chemicals and the THC found in marijuana, it can also become addictive, and a user will gradually need more and more to feel the same effects.

Marijuana can also cause some non-medical effects. The biggest one being the smell. The most popular way to consume marijuana is by smoking it, leaving behind a pungent odor. For those experiencing nausea as part of their condition, this smell could make problems worse, or make others uncomfortable.
