Nevada Medical Marijuana Laws
Medical marijuana is a beneficial treatment method for many people suffering from a chronic illness because of its therapeutic characteristics to soothe pain and reduce inflammation, among other things. Nevada is one of more than 20 states that has legalized the consumption of marijuana for medicinal purposes. Let's take a look at what it takes to legally obtain marijuana treatment in Nevada.
Kushley is dedicated to providing organic products that eliminate odors instead of just masking them like our competition. Our products are perfect for getting rid of marijuana odors so you can undergo treatment without the discomfort that the smell might cause you or others. You should be able to keep your privacy and avoid any judgement from those who haven't opened up to the idea of marijuana as medicine.
Nevada legalized marijuana for medical use in 2010 and established an identification program for people to obtain medical marijuana. To legally obtain medical marijuana, a patient must first be diagnosed with a chronic illness and have a doctor recommendation suggesting that you would be a good candidate to receive treatment. Once you have this recommendation you may fill out an application and submit the proper documentation to the state to await approval. Nevada recognizes these chronic illnesses and symptoms as valid reason for receiving medical marijuana:
- Cachexia (wasting)
- Muscle Spasms, including those caused by multiple sclerosis
- Seizures, including those caused by epilepsy
- Severe nausea
- Severe pain
The legislature also includes "any other medical condition or treatment for a medical condition that is classified as a chronic or debilitating medical condition by regulation of the Division" and that has been added via approved petition submission.
You may visit a dispensary to receive up to 2.5 ounces or the allowable amount of marijuana derived products. For those that do not have a dispensary in their county, they may grow their own mature plants for their personal use as long as it is grown in a secured location that prohibits access to those without an ID card.
For those under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian solely designated as a caregiver must give permission and be responsible for acquiring and administering the cannabis treatment.
Cannabis as Medicine
Research has shown that some of the chemicals in marijuana are similar to those that our brains produce. Marijuana's major effect comes from a chemical called delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC for short. It can be taken in many forms, such as smoking, vaping, consumed in food or drink, absorbed through the skin from lotions, and even as drops under the tongue to name a few.
The most obvious effect of marijuana is the "high" that typically makes people more relaxed, distort the senses, and impair thinking and coordination. For this reason, it is never smart to drive a car or operate heavy machinery while on a high.
The most impressive potential benefit for marijuana is treating cancer. Research has shown that THC can slow the effects of cancer, stop tumor growth, and possibly even kill the defective cells that cause cancer. Hopefully, the increasing awareness for marijuana's healing potential will lead to further research of its effects on us.
Staying Comfortable During Treatment
Since smoking marijuana is a common consumption method, the problem of the smell left behind is also a common one. Marijuana smoke, although the pungent smell is pleasant to some, can be disturbing to others. For those undergoing chemotherapy or those struggling with nausea, the smell can increase discomfort. For others, the smell makes them uncomfortable because it is associated with an illegal substance. Because of this, people may elect to keep their distance or bombard the patient with unnecessary questions.
